“Labor has laid down the gauntlet to the Coalition to create a bipartisan approach to aligning climate and energy policy, which has been in disarray for over decade and created barriers to energy investment.

“But Labor has also shown it is prepared to go it alone and use the Clean Energy Finance Corporation to underwrite investment in key energy infrastructure, complementing the massive investment by the private sector currently being undertaken in renewable energy generation.

“Our analysis of data from the Clean Energy Regulator shows if industry is allowed to continue investing at the current rate, then Labor’s target of 50% renewable energy by 2030 could potentially be met by the mid-2020s.

“Labor’s proposed incentives for household renewable adoption are smaller, but address social equity issues by means testing and by providing incentives for rental and social housing.  It is important in the electricity sector’s transformation to renewable energy that people are not left behind.”
