Treasurer Frydenberg will deliver the 2019 Australia in the World lecture, hosted by the Australian Studies Institute at ANU.
The title of the Treasurer’s talk is ‘Navigating the global economy in challenging times’.
Australian Studies Institute Director, Professor Paul Pickering, said the lecture would be “no ordinary Treasurer’s speech”.
“Just weeks before unveiling the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook statement, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg will examine the international forces buffeting the Australian economy,” he said.
“With its panoramic brief, this lecture will see the Federal Government’s senior-most economic minister lay out Canberra’s perspective on trade tensions, new strategic competition, deepening security fears, environmental crises, and sluggish global growth.”
The annual Australia in the World lecture is now in its second year.
Professor Pickering said the lecture series underscores The Australian National University’s position as the nation’s leading institution for both the development and measurement of critical public policy.
“Now in its second year, this landmark lecture series deeply delves into Australia’s unique circumstances as an open middle power committed to trade and the rule-based-order, while facing important challenges to fairness, sustainability, and global realignments,” he said.
